This’s still the very first year we’ve been introduced to Mayan Harvest coffee through our partners at Royal Coffee Inc, and it’s been an honor to be able to work directly with Rosalba’s family farms. These top-quality coffee beans came from high altitudes in the heart of the Chiapas Sierra, and shine with their sweetness, full-bodied profile, and delicate notes of cherry and tangerine - a perfect early afternoon cup all year-round.

Cifuentes Family Lot from Rosalba Cifuentes family farms in Chiapas, Mexico.

BACKGROUND DETAILS

Cifuentes Family lot is sourced from Eugenio Roblero, Froilan Roblero Cifuentes, Otoniel Roblero Cifuentes, and Omar Roblero Cifuentes, who are uncles and cousins to Rosalba Cifuentes Tovia. These four family-owned farms are located within the municipality of Bella Vista in the state of Chiapas, Mexico.

The Bella Vista municipality is located deep in the Chiapas region of Mexico and is the birthplace of Rosalba Cifuentes, the founder of Mayan Harvest Coffee, an exporter, and importer of this family lot. Rosalba, who was raised in the Bella Vista coffee community, has dedicated herself to helping producers with small plots of land (averaging 5 acres) earn a better price for their coffee. Rosalba ensures traceability for her community coffee by personally exporting the coffee directly to the Bay Area.

ON MAYAN HARVEST COFFEE

Rosalba Cifuentes founded her organization (which has now grown to 70 producers, 50 of whom are women) to work with coffee producers in the area on improving harvesting and processing their coffee to get more competitive prices. Many of these producers have very little land, so these increased premiums make a significant difference and improve the livelihood of producers’ families while allowing them to reinvest in better agricultural practices. Mayan Harvest also provides medical and dental assistance to its members as well.
